The National Assembly of Panama has set an intensive legislative agenda for Monday, March 9, focusing on the analysis of bills impacting foreign relations, public health, and the national education system.
Commissioners will first debate Bill 170, which proposes to modernize the diplomatic and consular career by fostering the professionalization of its officials. Simultaneously, the commission will discuss Bill 526, an initiative that seeks to formally establish the Consular Career of the Merchant Marine of the Republic of Panama, a strategic sector for the country's foreign service.
In the educational and public health spheres, subcommissions will meet. The Subcommittee on Education, Culture, and Sport will convene at 10:00 a.m. to consider Bill 297. This legislative proposal establishes the opening and promotion of night schools for adults in each district of the national territory, seeking to expand the academic offering for the adult population.
The Subcommittee on Labor, Health, and Social Development will meet in the Carlos (Titi) Alvarado Auditorium. These legislative initiatives propose everything from a total ban to strict regulation of the use, marketing, advertising, and safety of electronic nicotine delivery systems, e-cigarettes, vaporizers, and similar devices in public and private spaces.
Following the conclusion of debates in the various working bodies, the National Assembly has scheduled its Ordinary Plenary Session at 3:30 p.m., where the follow-up on the topics addressed during the morning session and the continuation of the current period's legislative agenda are expected.
