Provisional Detention for Woman Linked to Triple Homicide in Don Bosco in 2022

A judge of the Guarantees Court of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, Luis Ceballos, ordered the personal preventive detention measure for a 27-year-old citizen, accused of the alleged commission of crimes against life and personal integrity, in its negligent homicide modality, attempted homicide and against collective security, illicit association -as a primary accomplice- for a triple homicide and two injured people in the Don Bosco district. In this sense, during a hearing held this Wednesday, March 18, the judge justified the imposition of the aforementioned precautionary measures after analyzing the arguments presented by the intervening parties, considering that the procedural risks #1, 2 and 3 were accredited, that is, the danger of flight, destroying or affecting means of proof and the number of crimes imputed, after observing that the accused does not have a domicile, due to the serious nature of the crimes that affect society and the link of the accused with the facts investigated. Previously, the judge declared the apprehension legal and accepted the charge formulation by the Public Ministry, represented by prosecutor Jesebeth Mesano; while the accused was assisted by private technical defenders Gustavo Beiley and Francisco Herrera. Meanwhile, the defenses of crime victims were in charge of public defender Salma Pittí and private defender Omar Cerrud. The private technical defense announced an appeal against the precautionary measure imposed. The hearing to resolve said appeal was scheduled for March 26, at 2:00 p.m., in Room 5, before the Appeals Court of the First Judicial District. This case is related to a triple homicide and two injured by firearm impacts in a fast food sales establishment in Plaza Tocumen, Don Bosco district, on September 1, 2022.
