Panama's Ministry of Housing held a meeting with state agencies and service providers to accelerate the land legalization process for over 20 communities seeking legal security and access to basic services.


Panama's Ministry Accelerates Land Legalization for Communities

The Ministry of Housing and Land Use Planning (Miviot) led a high-level inter-institutional meeting on Wednesday to accelerate the land legalization process for the Victoriano Lorenzo group. This collective represents over 20 communities located in the North, East, Central sectors of Panama, and the province of West Panama, which seek to regularize informally occupied lands on state and private farms.

Dialogue for Legal Security The working table was led by the Director of Informal Settlements, Doris Henríquez, who highlighted that the Ministry maintains an essential dialogue space for state institutions to update the status of each file. The meeting was also attended by executives from the Secretariat of Public Affairs of the Presidency of the Republic, Juan Bonilla and Laura Barrios, as well as Beatriz Dixon from the Ombudsman's Office.

Coordination of Services and Technical Management To address formal access to electrical services, Jenny Villarreal and Javier Mendieta from the National Authority of Public Services (ASEP) attended, along with representatives from the company ENSA. Technical and administrative management was reinforced with the presence of delegates from the National System of Civil Protection, the National Mortgage Bank, the National Land Authority, and the Administrative Unit of Reverted Assets of the Ministry of Economy and Finance. This joint collaboration aims to find legal and technical alternatives that guarantee the communities in this group achieve the formal regularization of their lands.
