Inspection at Panama Fire Corps over alleged fund mismanagement

On Thursday, March 26, an inspection was carried out at the headquarters of the Panama Fire Corps, located on Avenida Perú, as part of an investigation into alleged irregularities in the handling of public funds. The action was executed by the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, which is advancing an investigation into possible crimes against public administration, related to the acquisition of equipment and supplies between the years 2022 and 2024, for an approximate amount of 20 million dollars. During the inspection, the authorities reviewed documentation and interviewed officials linked to the purchasing processes within the institution, with the aim of clarifying possible anomalies in the management of these resources. The investigation originated from a complaint filed by the Fire Corps itself in March 2025, after detecting inconsistencies in the management of its trust fund through an internal audit. According to the complaint, irregularities were identified in the administration of funds destined for the acquisition of essential equipment, which generated a significant impact on the entity's operations. Among the findings, it was determined that part of the resources was not used for the established purposes and, in some cases, suppliers could not complete the deliveries due to the inconsistencies detected in the processes. The authorities continue with the investigations to determine responsibilities and the scope of the alleged irregularities.
