Ronny Rodríguez (alias Didier) and William Pittí (alias Guillermo), former agents of the National Security Council (CSN), surrendered on the afternoon of Thursday, March 26, after nearly a decade on the run. They will be tried in April for the wiretapping scheme. Both are wanted for their participation in the unauthorized interception of communications of more than 150 “targets” during the last two years of Ricardo Martinelli's government (2009-2014). Alejandro Pérez, Rodríguez and Pittí's lawyer, indicated that they voluntarily approached the First Liquidator Court, led by Judge Agueda Rentería, who had declared them fugitives from justice. Their defense clings to the fact that no one saw the former president order the espionage operations. The former directors of the PAN, Gustavo Pérez and Alejandro Garúz, were sentenced to 5 years in prison. Information is developing… They are now at the Judicial Investigation Directorate (DIJ) in Ancón. For now, two hearings have been scheduled. The first will be on April 24, concerning the loss of the wiretapping machine, acquired for $13 million with funds from the National Aid Program (PAN). Meanwhile, on April 29, they will be tried for the alleged commission of the crime of unauthorized interception of communications. For these facts, Martinelli was extradited and tried (on two occasions), but was acquitted.
