Heated Debate in Panama's Assembly Over Road Project

The atmosphere in the Commerce Committee of the National Assembly became tense when Minister of Public Works, José Luis Andrade, appeared to answer questions about the Via España road project. What seemed like a routine session ended in a direct confrontation between deputies Jairo 'Bolota' Salazar and Ernesto Cedeño. Everything exploded when Salazar launched a question about the maintenance program in Los Cuatro Altos. Immediately, Cedeño cut him short and asked him to stick to the questionnaire sent to the minister, making it clear that the topic was not on the list. There, 'Bolota' lost it. 'You have to give me the opportunity.' He didn't let him finish and questioned what had been happening from the very beginning. 'I have been watching the entire hearing and here no one has stuck to that questionnaire... and it was extremely long,' he blurted out, showing his annoyance to everyone. Cedeño tried to restore order, without lowering his tone. 'Jairo, wait... each deputy can ask as they wish... I'm giving you the opportunity, please land,' he told him. But Salazar pounced on him at once. 'I have the right to speak, do not forget,' he claimed, defending his turn without backing down. The tension continued to rise when Cedeño warned: 'if you become exquisite' I will speak clearly about how these summonses work. But 'Bolota' interrupted again, firm in his position: 'They cannot take away my right to speak,' closing the moment with the environment heated within the commission.
