In Panama on Wednesday afternoon, family, friends, and acquaintances gathered at the National Sanctuary to say their final goodbyes to Jesús Antonio Alemán, a politician and boxing judge, who was murdered last Sunday, March 29, on Calle 19 in Ciudad Radial, Juan Díaz. During the funeral ceremony, Alemán's son, known as the 'Shark', his parents, and other relatives received condolences from dozens of people who packed the church, as well as from prominent figures in politics and sports, such as 'Cholo' Roberto Durán. Alemán's premature death at just 52 years of age has left a void in the Juan Díaz district, where he stood out as a community leader, and also in the world of sports, as another facet of his personal life was serving as an official for the Professional Boxing Commission of Panama. On that Sunday, when Alemán attended the inauguration of a football league, a shooting occurred in which at least seven projectiles hit his body. Authorities have confirmed that the attack was not directed at him. Following the armed attack, in addition to Alemán—a Panameñista and former candidate for representative by Juan Díaz—another person died, and six others were injured.
