A fire on Cerro Guacamaya endangered the water supply for 52 communities in the Penonomé sugarcane area, according to the Ministry of Environment. The flames reached about 1,500 hectares of forest before being controlled.

The fire spread rapidly due to the dry and windy conditions in the area, requiring the intervention of forest firefighters and volunteers for its extinguishment. The situation was considered critical due to the proximity of the flames to vital water sources for local communities.

"The fire posed a serious threat to the water availability for numerous communities in the region. Thanks to the hard work of the emergency teams, we managed to contain the flames and avoid further damage," stated a spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment.

After several hours of fighting, firefighters managed to completely extinguish the fire on Cerro Guacamaya, thus preventing devastating consequences for the ecosystem and nearby population. Local authorities have urged the community to remain vigilant and cooperate in preventing forest fires in the region.
