ATTT Tightens Transport Control in Soná After Wave of Complaints

Authorities reiterated that complaints must be submitted in writing for proper processing. Meanwhile, some users—who requested anonymity to avoid reprisals—urged the ATTT to expand investigations and include other alleged irregularities they claim continue to occur within the transportation system. Authorities expect the inspections to clarify the allegations and improve service quality in one of the fastest-growing districts in the province of Veraguas. Constant complaints that exploded on social media from users and residents of the Soná district, regarding alleged irregularities in the transportation service, led the Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT) in Santiago to activate an inspection plan to verify what is really happening. Juan Manuel Guevara, regional director of the ATTT, explained that although most complaints have not been formally filed, the institution is addressing the reports that have circulated on digital platforms. He indicated that they are analyzing each complaint and have already scheduled a series of supervisions at the Soná terminal to verify the claims. Hermín Vega, a board member of one of the district's routes, acknowledged that inconveniences have increased since the opening of the new terminal. However, he assured that the changes are a response to the district's growth and the need to improve the system's organization. "Soná is advancing, and it is normal for adjustments to be made in public transport during the process," he stated. But not everyone agrees. Alcides González, a former transport leader in Soná, warned that part of the discontent arises because some routes do not operate according to the operations manual approved by the ATTT. "There are operators who prefer to pick up foreigners, leaving local residents waiting for long hours or without service. The rules are there to be followed," he stated. The terminal administration reported that everything is handled in accordance with current legislation, but any formal complaint will be reviewed.
