Comptroller Anel Flores pointed out that currently the country does not have solid finances to afford wasteful spending. The Comptroller's Office detected that several Community Councils in rural areas of the country have increased representation expenses by up to 3,000 balboas.
Flores emphasized: "We do not have healthy finances, we are not in a position to be increasing administrative expenses of any kind, much less travel and representation." The Comptroller's Office noted this increase in the reports submitted by the Community Councils.
This finding adds to other irregularities found by the Comptroller's Office in various state entities. Anel Flores stressed the importance of transparency in the use of public funds and the need to adhere to a framework of austerity in the current economic situation.
