The General Comptroller of the Republic, Anel Flores, called on the magistrates of the Supreme Court of Justice to reconsider the request for a salary increase they have submitted. The Comptroller's Office has already returned this request without endorsement, indicating that the law would require them to approve it if the magistrates insist on it.
Flores emphasized the importance of high-ranking court officials showing empathy with the current situation of the country, arguing that the proposed salary increase is not sustainable for national finances. He highlighted that the country is in a financial crisis after years of excessive spending, making it necessary to reflect on the responsibility of requesting salary increases that could have repercussions on other institutions.
Additionally, the comptroller mentioned that in some local boards, increases in representation expenses have been approved, reaching even three thousand dollars, which he described as a set of salary increases for people seeking more income. In light of this situation, he urged public officials to responsibly analyze the current financial context before demanding salary increases that could trigger a domino effect on other areas.
In the words of Anel Flores: "We cannot continue to increase salaries. I have asked the highest dignitaries of the Supreme Court of Justice to have a little more empathy with the country at this moment. To suspend that salary increase because the country cannot afford it." To address this issue, it is planned to issue a circular that temporarily halts all salary increases in the country, following coordination with the Minister of Economy and Finance, Felipe Chapman.
