Seize over a ton of seafood products

Units of the Eastern Brigade in Darién detected five individuals engaged in illegal fishing near Bahía Piña, confiscating over a ton of seafood products in a protected area.


The National Border Service of Panama (Senafront) announced that at a distance of 10 miles, near Bahía Piña, in the province of Darién, units from the Eastern Brigade managed to detect five people aboard a vessel, engaged in large-scale illegal fishing activities in a protected area. The citizens were caught with more than a ton of seafood.

Following the discovery, the individuals, the vessel, and the confiscated products were taken to the regional office of the Panama Aquatic Resources Authority (ARAP) in La Palma, where the corresponding legal procedures will be carried out.

In the words of Senafront authorities: "This operation is a clear message that illegal activities that jeopardize our marine resources will not be tolerated. We are committed to ensuring the protection of our waters and their biodiversity, combating illegal fishing and preserving our protected areas."
