Traditional authorities of the Madungandí Comarca met with the team of the Project Coordinating Unit-UCP of the Ministry of Government to learn about the progress of the 'Support for the Comprehensive Development Plan of Indigenous Peoples' project, particularly the health and education works for this ancestral territory. Mayelín Palacio, General Coordinator of UCP/Mingob, answered the concerns of Chiefs Jaime Pérez and Domitilo Sánchez, as well as the technicians who accompanied the authorities. Palacio explained that the Aqua Yala Educational Center has been delivered in its first phase, the structural part, and its equipment is pending; the process is being developed with the partner Meduca and will benefit a student population of more than 230 primary and middle school students. Meanwhile, the Aqua Yala Health Center is within the plans of future projects that are still under evaluation and also depends on financing. In addition to thanking the attention given by the officials of UCP/Mingob, the comarcal authorities expressed their willingness to maintain this dialogue and approach with government institutions and to coordinate efforts to effectively develop all works and projects in favor of their indigenous people. Panama's Comprehensive Development Plan for Indigenous Peoples has financing of 80 million dollars from the World Bank and a 5-million-dollar contribution from the government, and is being executed by the Ministry of Government through the Project Coordinating Unit-UCP and the partners Minsa and Meduca.
