Foreigners Will Obtain Humanitarian Work Permits

According to the latest census, around 249 thousand foreigners currently reside in Panama. The Panamanian government announced the implementation of a new decree that will grant work permits to foreigners for humanitarian reasons. This measure aims to regularize the labor situation of those foreigners who are in the country and who, for various circumstances, need to work to survive.

The Minister of Labor and Labor Development stated that this decision is part of a comprehensive plan that seeks to address the needs of the migrant population. It is expected that with the implementation of these work permits, labor informality will be reduced and greater protection will be provided for the labor rights of foreigners in Panama.

One of the requirements for obtaining this permit will be to demonstrate the need to work for humanitarian reasons, which includes situations of vulnerability and economic need. Additionally, this decree is expected to help combat the labor exploitation of foreigners by providing them with the opportunity to access formal and dignified jobs.

In the words of the Minister of Labor, this measure is part of a humanitarian and solidarity approach that seeks to guarantee respect for the rights of migrants in Panama. With the implementation of these work permits for humanitarian reasons, it is expected to regularize the situation of a significant number of foreigners residing in the country who need to work in order to live with dignity.
