The first views of the David-Panama-Border Railroad layout were presented in the amphitheater of the Presidency, marking shorter distances for passengers, cargo, and the connection of ports. Engineer Henry Faraup from the Railroad Secretariat indicated that this mega project promises more jobs and a more modern Panama alongside Panamanian companies. The first stage of the project, which will consist of around 14 stations, will start from Panama Pacifico to Divisa, with the Panama Metro as a reference point.
According to Faraup, this work will facilitate the connection of Panama with America through the Railroad, attracting significant investments from the United Kingdom and other major banks. President José Raúl Mulino highlighted that this project was a campaign promise made a year ago, emphasizing that it symbolizes the continuous progress of Panama and a better future for all. Mulino apologized for any misinterpreted expressions in the past and emphasized his willingness to forgive and move forward.
Mulino highlighted that the Railroad will generate more than 50,000 direct and indirect jobs and stressed the importance of this work for the future development of Panama. The Railroad infrastructure will cover 375 km in length, reaching speeds of up to 180 km/h for passengers and 100 km/h for cargo. Additionally, an exclusive bridge for the Railroad will be built in the surrounding area of Centenario.
The initial design stage of the Railroad will reveal its cost in approximately three months. The operation of the Panama-David and Border Railroad will start from Panama Pacifico to Divisa.
