The president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep), Gabriel Diez, expressed his concern about the wave of shutdowns, this time led by doctors and nursing staff, which adds to the climate of social instability in Panama.
Diez indicated that these protests cause the loss of classes, jobs, appointments, and even surgeries, affecting the entire population. Regarding who is most affected, the businessman stated that the situation is not limited to a specific group, impacting every company and its employees equally.
The concern of the business sector has intensified since the start of the protests led by educators on April 23. Construction workers have joined this cause, followed by medical unions since this Monday. Despite this, according to reports from the Social Security Fund (CSS), the support of health workers has not been widespread, as many hospitals have maintained their services during the protests.
Gabriel Diez believes that these illegal strikes represent a setback that hinders the development and common well-being of the country. He emphasized the importance of stability for businesses, which allows them to operate, maintain jobs, and contribute to the progress of society.
In Diez's opinion, the protests aim to create unrest among the population and impose the interests of those who call for them, without considering the negative consequences for the economy and Panamanian society. In this regard, he urged reflection on the impact of these actions on the country's future and the necessity to seek solutions without resorting to extreme and illegal measures.
