UNPAC Re-Elects Board and Announces Key Investments

The Panamanian Union of Commercial Aviators (UNPAC) confirmed the full re-election of its Board for 2026–2028, reaffirming its agenda focused on safety and labor stability. Captain Ilma Velásquez will continue as General Secretary. Recent achievements include strengthened labor agreements and technical training programs. The new period will focus on updating agreements, creating a master's degree in aeronautical sciences, and acquiring a new simulator.


UNPAC Re-Elects Board and Announces Key Investments

The Panamanian Union of Commercial Aviators (UNPAC) confirmed the full re-election of its Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 period in an internal process that reaffirmed the continuity of its union agenda, focused on operational safety, technical training, and labor stability for Panamanian pilots. Captain Ilma Velásquez will continue at the helm as General Secretary, again backed by the guild's members, who highlighted the importance of maintaining a management line focused on the professionalization and modernization of the sector. During its first administration, UNPAC consolidated labor agreements and academic programs that directly benefited its pilots. Among recent achievements: Strengthening of the DHL–UNPAC Collective Agreement, improvements were negotiated in salary, technical, health, and safety areas, as well as educational subsidies to support the continuous development of aviators. Technical Training and Professional Certifications: Technical-Aeronautical Diploma, with 230 certified pilots. Aeronautical English Diploma, taught in conjunction with the University of Panama's Language Center. Additionally, community and equity activities were held, such as the UNPAC Great Family Fair and the "Empowered Women in Aviation" forum, which highlighted the female role within the national air sector. The re-elected Board of Directors presented an action plan focused on elevating the standard of Panamanian aviation: Update of the COPA/UNPAC Collective Agreement, aligned with international practices. Creation of a Master's Degree in Aeronautical Sciences, with an emphasis on air management and flight safety. Acquisition of an FTD B737 simulator with a realistic air traffic control environment, which will strengthen guild training. Implementation of a union medical office, dedicated to primary care and occupational health monitoring for pilots. UNPAC reiterated that this new period will be oriented towards strengthening human talent, academic advancement, and the adoption of advanced technology to maintain the highest standards of safety and competitiveness in the Panamanian aviation industry.
