The University of Panama leads the National System of Research (SNI) with 41 researchers, making it the institution with the highest number of researchers in the system.
"This achievement reflects the university's commitment to scientific production, innovation, and strengthening a research culture that contributes to the country's development," stated Rector Eduardo Flores.
He added that SNI recognition is an indicator of the quality of university research, as well as the social impact of projects for the benefit of Panamanian society.
The National System of Research (SNI) is an instrument of the National Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation (SENACYT) that supports the development of scientific research and technological development in Panama by recognizing the excellence of the work of natural persons (researchers) or legal entities (research centers) dedicated to research. Recognition can be in the form of economic incentives or distinctions, awarded based on the quality, production, transcendence, and impact of said work.
Within the SNI, researchers from faculties, regional centers, institutes, and university extensions develop projects on the country's existing problems, provide evidence-based solutions, and generate advances in natural, social, human, and technological sciences, highlights the University of Panama.
This system was created through Law 56 of December 14, 2007.
According to the UP, this growth reflects years of investment in training, consolidation of research groups, and encouragement of innovation in various areas of knowledge.
