It is estimated that this infrastructure will directly benefit more than 15,000 residents, as well as some 30,000 users who frequent the corridor to localities such as El Real de Santa María and Pinogana."
Recent work and progress in the infrastructure
During the recent week, the MOP has focused its efforts on various construction activities. In particular, on the branch leading to the health center, the water crossings have already been completed, and the base is being prepared for the placement of the asphalt layer. The completion of this infrastructure is advancing towards its final phase and is projected to have a direct and positive impact on mobility, access to essential services, and the strengthening of agricultural and commercial activities, key aspects for the integration of the Darien communities.
Additionally, excavation work for earthworks was carried out and select material was placed on the branch leading to the health center. Other work fronts include the installation of drainage systems, the construction of paved gutters, the formation of earthworks, and the application of paving in various sectors of the project.
Traffic restrictions and final phase
The MOP emphasized that due to continuous paving works on the section between the Chucunaque and Tuira rivers, the bridge over the Chucunaque river remains exclusively enabled for internal traffic related to the construction. This megaproject, with an investment of 45 million balboas, is fundamental to strengthen the connectivity of the communities of Yaviza, El Real de Santa María, and Pinogana. The project covers a main section of 6.9 kilometers, to which is added a 940-meter branch that leads to the Yaviza Health Center. Its use by the general public remains restricted, allowing passage only in duly justified emergency cases.
