Changes in Electricity Tariffs in Panama

Panama has announced new electricity tariffs. Company EDECHI has kept tariffs for 99% of clients, while EDEMET will raise prices only for consumers whose consumption exceeds 300 kWh per month. Most households will not face an increase in payments.

Changes in Electricity Tariffs in Panama

According to the current tariff schedule, the application of tariffs is distributed as follows:

In the EDECHI concession area, no tariff variation is recorded for the vast majority of clients. Approximately 99 % maintain the subsidies from the Tariff Stabilization Fund (FET) for residential consumption up to 300 kWh, as well as the Western Tariff Fund (FTO), extended by the State until June 2026. Therefore, clients within these ranges will not see changes in their electricity bill.

In the case of EDEMET, the majority of residential clients will not have increases, as long as their monthly consumption is up to 300 kWh. Only clients with consumption exceeding 300 kWh will register a variation, associated with the new tariff scheme. In EDEMET, around 67 % of clients remain within the subsidized range, so they will not see changes in their tariff.
