Panama: New Fuel Prices

Panama has announced changes in fuel prices. 95-octane gasoline will become more expensive, while low-sulfur diesel will become slightly cheaper. Prices are adjusted every two weeks depending on international purchases.

The National Secretariat of Energy announced the new fuel prices that will apply from this Friday, January 9, to the next January 23. Meanwhile, 91-octane gasoline will remain the same at $0.70 per liter, while low-sulfur diesel will reflect a slight decrease of less than 1 cent per liter, settling at $0.76 per liter. 95-octane gasoline will register a slight increase of less than 1 cent per liter, settling at $0.84 per liter. It was also reported that every 15 days, the price is adjusted based on the cost of purchasing that fuel abroad and bringing it into the country, adding transportation, operations, and taxes, which results in the final price paid by the consumer. The entity explained that Panama imports 100% of the fuel it uses, so prices at gas stations depend on what happens in the international market.
