Uncertainty for Waste Collection Workers in San Miguelito

The Municipality of San Miguelito hired three temporary companies to continue waste collection after the Revisalud contract expires. Workers are unsure of their future after the contract ends on January 18th and are demanding government intervention to protect their rights.

The Municipality of San Miguelito has hired three temporary companies to continue waste collection once the contract with Revisalud expires. Workers from Revisalud, the company in charge of waste collection in the San Miguelito district, are unsure of their fate once the company's contract with the mayor's office ends. They state they are unaware of how their contracts will be terminated, if they will be paid out, the payment date, or what will happen to other labor rights they are entitled to by law. It is not ruled out that the contract could be extended for another 6 months, until 2027, to continue the search for a new company. The employees have pointed out that so far, there is no official communication that guarantees what will happen when the contract ends. In this context, they demand the intervention of the Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) to ensure their labor rights are respected before the contract expires on January 18. They also do not know if another company will absorb them or if they will be left unemployed and unpaid. Meanwhile, the Panama Urban and Domiciliary Cleaning Authority (AAUD) is providing the service in conjunction with the mayor's office.
