Caja de Ahorros Expands Credit Access for Panama Health Officials

In a decisive step towards financial inclusion, Caja de Ahorros announced the easing of access to credit for administrative officials and professionals of the Ministry of Health (MINSA) with temporary, occasional, or transient contracts (a contract renewed annually), a segment historically excluded from the formal banking system. The initiative will benefit more than 1,600 health sector workers, who can opt for personal, mortgage, and auto loans through schemes designed according to their labor reality. For temporary and occasional workers, the auto loan term will be 2 years. Maximum debt level of 55%, with or without a mortgage. Payment capacity of 35%, evaluated according to verified income. With this initiative, Caja de Ahorros consolidates its vision of a modern, accessible, and inclusive bank, focused on closing financial gaps and strengthening the economic stability of those who care for the health of all Panamanians. For administrative staff, a one-year term will be considered for mortgages and personal loans. This model recognizes the income stability and contractual continuity of these collaborators, allowing them to access financing under responsible and sustainable conditions. The general manager of Caja de Ahorros, Andrés Farrugia G., highlighted that: “Just as we did with construction workers, we are transforming our evaluation models to offer real opportunities for access to credit, with a clear social vision, for those who provide essential services to the country. From 'The Family Bank of Panama', on this occasion, it provides solutions by expanding access to credit to MINSA servers, understanding their labor realities and turning their daily needs into concrete opportunities for well-being and development”. For his part, the Minister of Health, Dr. Fernando Boyd Galindo, highlighted the human impact of the alliance. “This agreement improves the quality of life of our officials, recognizing their commitment to Panama and providing them with financial tools according to their labor reality,” he stated. The requirements vary depending on the type of product, but in general they include: Minimum income, which may vary by region (Panama Metro or Interior) and type of credit. Labor stability, at least one (1) month of service in the current job will be considered for personal loans and mortgages for health professionals. 5 years for temporary workers and personal loans.
