The National Aqueducts and Sewers Institute (Idaan) has launched the 2026 national disconnection operation, aimed at users in the commercial and residential categories who have outstanding balances with the institution. To avoid service interruptions, Idaan urges delinquent customers to use the available channels, including flexible payment arrangements managed in person at agencies nationwide. The national director of marketing for Idaan, Marvina Ábrego, emphasized that these actions will be carried out uninterruptedly throughout the year, including the carnival period, with the aim of cleaning up the institution's finances and ensuring system stability. Idaan reaffirmed its commitment to providing drinking water to the population and calls for citizen co-responsibility to strengthen the national water system. Users who prevent access to measurement equipment will be subject to administrative sanctions, and their files will be referred to Coactive Jurisdiction through the Executor Court. Likewise, the entity reiterated that obstructing meters with physical or material barriers such as concrete is an illegal practice. Idaan highlighted that the collection for the service is the fundamental resource for sustaining the 56 water treatment plants operating in the country. These resources cover operational costs, the acquisition of chemical supplies, preventive maintenance of the distribution network, and the investments required to guarantee the population a drinking water supply. The technical deployment will prioritize the province of Panama, where the debt reaches $10.2 million. According to Idaan, the accumulated delinquency amounts to $98 million, of which $82 million corresponds to the residential sector and $16 million to the commercial sector. Tampering with the equipment does not exempt the customer from service suspension.
