Decameron strengthens environmental management with Biodiversity Contest

The hotel chain Decameron successfully concluded its 2025 Biodiversity Contest, integrating 19 properties across six countries to create a high-impact environmental management system. The initiative included thousands of volunteer hours, training for hundreds of people, and direct aid to over 2,250 animals.

The hotel chain Decameron All Inclusive Hotels & Resorts successfully concluded its 2025 Biodiversity Contest, a strategy that integrated 19 properties across six countries to consolidate a high-impact environmental management system in the territories where it operates. This move reaffirms the company's commitment to promoting responsible tourism models in harmony with the natural wealth of each destination. Ana Lucía Giraldo, Corporate Director of Sustainability for Decameron, explained that biodiversity is an essential part of the territories that host the hotels and represents an organizational responsibility. The mobilization of internal teams generated over 5,600 hours of volunteer work, consolidating a culture of sustainability within the organization. These actions were complemented by the intervention of 9,456 m² of land through tree planting, the adaptation of spaces for rehabilitated wildlife, and beach cleanup drives.

Education and Corporate Volunteering

Academic and practical training was a fundamental pillar of the contest, adding up to more than 4,750 hours of environmental management training for employees, guests, and residents of the surrounding areas. The results of Decameron's environmental management benefit species in six countries. Through its environmental management program, the hotel chain intervened in over 9,000 m² of ecosystems and trained thousands of people in conservation practices. Giraldo pointed out that these projects show how team involvement allows sustainability to be translated into positive impacts for ecosystems. As part of the animal welfare initiatives, 144 sterilizations and 81 vaccinations of dogs and cats were carried out, in addition to facilitating the responsible adoption of 36 felines.

Conservation and Animal Welfare Results

In collaboration with the Environmental Secretariats of Mexico and El Salvador, the company participated in the release of 1,400 sea turtles, reinforcing the protection of threatened species. The initiative focused on the responsible management of wildlife, the protection of natural environments, and the awareness-raising of local communities, aligning these actions with the company's daily operations. The balance of the projects developed highlights the direct benefit to more than 2,250 individuals of various species, including wildlife, domestic animals, and animals recovered from illegal trafficking.
