Panama's Ministry of Labor Confirms Extra Pay for Work During Carnival

Panama's Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) reminded workers of their right to extra pay for working during Carnival. According to the law, employees who work on Carnival Tuesday are entitled to a 150% bonus on their salary and a compensatory day off. If the employer fails to provide the day off, they must pay an additional 50% of the salary. These measures are designed to protect workers' rights during public holidays.

The Ministry of Labor and Labor Development (Mitradel) reiterated that workers who work on Carnival Tuesday are entitled to extra pay. According to the Labor Code, this payment consists of a 150% surcharge on the salary corresponding to the ordinary workday. Additionally, the worker must receive a compensatory day off within the same period. "If the compensatory day off is not granted, an additional 50% payment is required," Mitradel highlights. The entity emphasizes that these provisions aim to guarantee compliance with labor rights during public holidays.
