Central America Advances Bioethanol Implementation

Central America advances towards the implementation of Bioethanol in the energy sector. Authorities and industrial sectors of the region will meet in Guatemala to define strategies on ethanol-gasoline blending programs and regulatory frameworks. This program is particularly relevant as it is about to be discussed in the Trade and Economic Affairs Commission of the National Assembly. Panama's participation in this seminar reaffirms the agro-industrial sector's commitment to a responsible energy transition. Logistics of distribution and building consensus between the public and private sectors to ensure supply chain stability will also be discussed. On behalf of Panama, executives from the Panamanian Sugarcane Industry Association (AZUCALPA) will participate. The seminar ultimately seeks to establish homogeneous technical standards and roadmaps adapted to local realities to facilitate the effective design of blending programs throughout the region. The Regional Seminar 'Cultivando Energía 2026', organized by the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council, will be held on March 10 and 11 in Guatemala City, bringing together government authorities, regulators, refineries, and biofuel producers. The event will feature delegations from Panama, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Chile, Ecuador, and Mexico, as well as representatives from the United States. As highlighted by AZUCALPA, the promotion of Bioethanol combines energy security with environmental sustainability and job creation in rural areas. Panamanian representatives will use this high-level forum to delve into the operational and technical aspects related to the National Program of Biofuels and Bioenergy. During the sessions, specialists will address critical issues such as regulatory frameworks, blending mandates, environmental impact, and the reduction of greenhouse gases.
