Panama is trending among Europeans. In 2025, the country received 308,857 visitors from the old continent, representing an 8.3% increase compared to the previous year when 285,311 travelers were reported, according to the report from the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP). The agency highlights that in absolute terms, 23,546 additional travelers arrived in Panama from Europe in 2025, with Spain being the country with the highest number of tourists visiting Panama, at 77,421 people. France ranked second with 35,999 visitors, followed by Italy with 36,345; Germany with 32,364; the Netherlands with 29,644 visitors, and the United Kingdom with 25,126 visitors. The European market represents 13.8% of the total visitors arriving in the country in 2025 through Tocumen International Airport. As of March, six airlines were reported to be operating flights between Panama and various European cities, such as Madrid with Air Europa and Iberia, Paris with Air France, Amsterdam with KLM, Istanbul with Turkish Airlines, and Condor from Frankfurt with a few flights per week. Data from Air Europa indicates that through this airline, tourists to Panama have registered a growth of over 40% in the last year. Imanol Pérez, commercial director of Air Europa, explained that although Panama is a connection hub to other destinations, more and more passengers are choosing to stay to visit the country as part of their itinerary. “There are more and more European passengers who decide to stay in Panama and not continue on to other destinations in America,” he noted. He specified that due to this increase, they decided to reinforce connectivity, increasing from four weekly frequencies to a daily flight between Madrid and Panama since last year. “Now the goal is to consolidate those seven frequencies with good occupancy levels and competitive fares,” indicated Pérez. According to the Air Europa executive, Panama City and the Panama Canal continue to be the main attractions for European visitors. However, other destinations within the country have gained prominence in travelers' itineraries. “After the city and the canal, there is a lot of interest in places like Bocas del Toro and Boquete, which are two destinations that have generated attention among passengers coming from Europe,” he commented.
