IMA Denies Quota Withdrawal from Onion Producer in Azuero

The Agricultural Marketing Institute (IMA) clarified that the publication circulating on social networks, which indicates the supposed withdrawal of a quota from an onion producer in the Azuero region, is false and unfounded. "IMA has not made arbitrary decisions or acted to the detriment of any producer for personal reasons," the institution stated. Additionally, it rejected any allegations attempting to link the institutional management with conflicting private interests or individual motives. On the other hand, the IMA pointed out that, in coordination with the Azuero Onion Producers Association, it has formalized a transparent agreement for the purchase and marketing of approximately 10,000 quintals of national onion, corresponding to the current production surplus. It emphasizes that this action is part of a technical and consensual strategy aimed at: addressing the oversupply of the sector, reducing the risk of economic losses in the sector, and contributing to the stability of the national market. The onion is being distributed through the IMA's sales points and agro-markets nationwide. We reiterate that this agreement was formally reached between the producer sector and the IMA for the benefit of the national agricultural sector and consumers. Likewise, it calls for responsibility in information management, urging citizens to always verify official sources before sharing content that could generate misinformation.
