The Agricultural Development Bank (BDA) presented its 2025 institutional report before the Agricultural Affairs Committee of the National Assembly, highlighting achievements and challenges in its transformation process to strengthen food security, agricultural financing, and support for rural producers.
Restructuring and financing for small producers The General Manager of the BDA, Francisco Mejía, explained that during 2025, efforts focused on the institutional restructuring to convert the entity into an efficient, sustainable bank focused on micro and small producers.
Loan recovery and disbursements In 2025, the BDA achieved a loan recovery of 42.1 million balboas: 38.6 million in interest and 3.4 million in capital. The provinces with the highest amounts were Chiriquí (8.8 million), Los Santos (7.5 million), and Coclé (6.6 million). Likewise, agricultural credits benefited producers from 742 communities, mainly rural, with disbursements of 33.5 million balboas in over 50 sectors.
Savings and institutional modernization The report highlights resource optimization measures that generated an annual saving of 4.8 million balboas through staff reduction, fuel, vehicle scrapping, and branch reorganization, in line with the state modernization plan promoted by President José Raúl Mulino.
Progress towards the Agricultural Development Institute The document also highlights progress in the creation of the Agricultural Development Institute (IFA), including the reactivation of the Board of Directors and the approval of resolutions that establish working tables to draft the bill that will transform the BDA into the IFA, which will be presented to the Executive Branch.
