The Panamanian government has announced a fuel subsidy for drivers, effective Wednesday, April 15th, at 6:00 a.m., fulfilling a commitment made during a meeting on April 1st. This measure aims to ensure an efficient, transparent, and targeted subsidy for the transportation sector and the Panamanian population.
To benefit from the subsidized fuel, transport providers must register on the digital platform 'Panamá Conecta.' Hundreds of taxis, buses, and school buses have already been registered. This process was made possible by the gradual deployment of the subsidy control system, the installation of equipment at gas stations, and the training of the operational staff.
Once registered, a transportist can receive the subsidized fuel by presenting their national ID card and the vehicle's license plate at any gas station in the country. The government reiterated that this initiative is designed to benefit the transport sector and the people of Panama.
In the near future, the sectors of cargo transport, tourism, and artisanal fishing boats will be incorporated into the program once the corresponding schedule is announced.
Subsidized fuel prices: • 91-octane gasoline: B/.0.90 per liter • 95-octane gasoline: B/.0.88 per liter • Diesel: B/.1.00 per liter
