Panamanian Documentary Wins Award at International Film Festival

The Panamanian documentary film “El Brujo: Julio Zachrisson” has won a new award at the prizes organized by the International Documentary Association (IDA), an annual event that recognizes and honors excellence in world documentary cinema. The film won the “Best Original Musical Composition” award. Composer Frédéric Filiatre received the award for the music to the film “El Brujo: Julio Zachrisson” (Panama). “El Brujo: Julio Zachrisson” is a documentary film that offers an intimate portrait of the life and work of the influential Panamanian artist Julio Zachrisson (1927-2021). It tells the story of the unexpected friendship between a young Panamanian filmmaker and the legendary artist Julio Zachrisson, who lived in Madrid and faced blindness in his old age. “El Brujo” received the “Best Original Music Score” award during the ceremony for the 41st edition of the IDA Documentary Awards. The documentary “El Brujo” is a winning project of the 2017 National Cinema Fund Contest, directed by Félix Guardia and produced by Tomás Cortés. The musical composition for the project was created by Frédéric Filiatre. It uses unpublished interviews and archival material to explore memory, identity, and art as a bridge between generations. For this year's awards, over 550 projects from 85 countries were submitted.
