'Guardians 2026' Operation: Enhanced Maritime Safety Controls in Panama

As part of the 'Guardians 2026' operation, inspectors from the Panama Maritime Authority (AMP) will be present in the Panama Costa Abajo and Costa Arriba areas to verify that vessels departing from their docks comply with maritime safety. This plan is designed to manage the large influx of visitors during the summer season, which coincides with Carnival. Residents of Colón and tourists take advantage of places like Río Boquerón, Río Chagres in the Transístmica area, and beaches such as La Angosta, Playa Huertas, Guayra, Isla Grande, and others to travel with their families during school vacations and Carnival festivities. The 'Guardians 2026' operation, Phase 1, led by the National System for Civil Protection (SINAPROC), is an interinstitutional effort aimed at preventing risks and protecting life in high-traffic tourist areas during the dry season. The AMP reminded that authorized docks must be used and maritime safety measures must be followed, including: life jackets for all occupants, communication equipment in good condition, signal flares, portable ABC-type fire extinguishers (minimum 4 kg), outboard motors in optimal condition, and a trained crew in navigation safety.
