At the end of this week, strong waves entered the cemetery of the Gobea community, located in the Donoso district on the lower coast of Colón, damaging the graves near the shore. This led to the construction of a containment wall to minimize the entry of the sea into the coastal community. Nubia Solis, 49, who has relatives and friends in this area, stated that it is necessary to build a containment wall so that the strong waves continue to destroy the area. Residents and relatives of the deceased came to this cemetery to watch as the waves hit the graves near the shore, fearing that the mortal remains of people resting in this cemetery would be exposed. Due to the strong surf, the cemetery fence gave way to the force of the waves. Likewise, Marcos Ortega, 37, a frequent visitor to the area, said that years ago a similar situation occurred in the Palmas Bellas community in the Chagres district and the option was to evacuate the families and relocate them elsewhere.
