The 'Remenditos' project is not just about making backpacks; it's an opportunity to prove that one can change their course. From early morning, inmates cut fabric, sew pockets, and work non-stop to have the backpacks ready before the first school bell rings. At the launch of the event, Minister of Government Dinoska Montalvo toured the workshop and observed how each piece is assembled. She witnessed the process up close: some cut the fabric into vibrant colors, others install the front and side compartments, and finally, those who finish the seams to give each backpack its final shape. Mario Guerra, an inmate at Tinajitas, reported that they have started this new school collection with great enthusiasm. In the prison system's workshops, the sounds of bars and locks are no longer the only ones heard. Now, it's up to the parents to see, like, and bring them directly to the classroom. Fermín Castañedas explained that the backpacks were designed for students with eye-catching and practical designs. A large group of male and female inmates is working tirelessly to make the 'Remenditos' school backpacks, which are expected to be seen on the shoulders of hundreds of students when the school year begins on March 2nd. The work is taking place in the Off-Site Industrialization workshop of the Freedom Plan. The sound of sewing machines is also heard. He explained that each companion has a different task and that everything is done in a chain, step by step, until the final product is achieved. He pointed out that this work represents social reintegration and a second chance, something that many inside hope to take advantage of.
