Spiritual Retreat in El Ciruelo de Pesé Brings Together 150 Youth

This year, a spiritual retreat was held in the community of El Ciruelo de Pesé, with a total of 150 young people participating. This is part of a growing trend in the province of Herrera, where adolescents are choosing to spend the carnival days differently. Focused on reflection and strengthening their faith, the young people gathered from Friday onwards, aiming to escape the hustle and bustle of the carnival and have an encounter with other young people centered on their faith. The retreat, which has been organized for 46 years, mainly brings together young people from Herrera who seek a connection with God in a healthy, convivial atmosphere. Sister María de los Santos Flores, one of the religious sisters in charge of the organization, explained that these events combine spaces for prayer and spiritual formation with recreational activities. During the camp, participants sleep in tents and engage in activities that include music, group dynamics, sports encounters, and friendly competitions. Additionally, the young people themselves collaborate in preparing the food, promoting responsibility and teamwork. Before these camps are held, the Ministry of Health conducts inspections and provides guidance to ensure adequate conditions that protect the health of attendees. These actions cover the verification of food preparation areas, water management, and the sanitary conditions of the site. During the retreat, health teams conduct tours to offer recommendations on hygiene and safe food handling, with the aim of preventing diseases and safeguarding the well-being of young people who opt for this alternative way of celebrating during the carnival.
