The National Police announced that, in observance of Holy Week, it will implement a special lane reversal operation on the Inter-American Highway to expedite the travel of thousands of people to the interior of the country. According to the institution, the lane reversal will begin on Thursday, April 2, at 11:00 a.m., from Avenida de los Mártires to Howard, and subsequently from the Burunga bridge in Arraiján to Alto de Campana in Capira. The measure will continue from Sajalices in Capira to San José in the San Carlos district. For Friday, April 3, the Police reported that the lane reversal will start at 8:00 a.m., from the Nazareno area in La Chorrera to Campana, and then from Sajalices to San José. Meanwhile, on Saturday, April 5, and Sunday, April 6, the operation will be carried out from 7:00 a.m., starting from Las Uvas in San Carlos to Sajalices, and subsequently from Campana to Nazareno. Authorities specified that the implementation of the lane reversal will depend on traffic behavior and vehicle flow in both directions during Holy Week. As part of the road safety plan, the National Police will deploy over 700 traffic agents nationwide, supported by technological equipment such as alcohol sensors (popularly known as breathalyzers) and radars, to enforce traffic regulations. “We call on the public to assume a responsible attitude on the roads, respect speed limits, avoid drinking and driving, use seatbelts, and maintain prudence at all times,” the institution reiterated. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Security reported that it has also activated a national operation to guarantee order and security at sites where religious and tourist activities are held during Holy Week, in commemoration of the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Public Security Minister Frank Ábrego detailed that the operation involves the deployment of 26,596 agents, strategically distributed across 456 coverage points throughout the country. It will also include 1,474 vehicles and motorcycles, 42 boats for maritime surveillance, and 18 aircraft to enhance patrol and air response efforts. “We ask the public for prudence, respect, and cooperation so that every family can return home safely,” Ábrego expressed. Under this plan, the National Police will set up 150 checkpoints and surveillance points in 18 police zones, backed by 997 vehicles, including cars and motorcycles. The National Aeronaval Service (Senan) will supervise nine checkpoints and guard 63 beaches, 11 airports, 15 islands, and 34 ports using 148 aeronautical means, including helicopters, boats, planes, and land vehicles. Likewise, the National Borders Service (Senafront) will reinforce security in 86 coverage areas, including religious centers, procession routes, tourist sites, beaches, and rivers, with the support of 231 vehicles and naval assets. The operation also includes the participation of the National Migration Service, which will manage 49 immigration control posts and have 47 vehicles at its disposal to facilitate supervision and assistance at border points.
