The General Director of the Panamanian Institute of Sports (PANDEPORTES), Miguel Ordóñez, has confirmed that an internal investigation is underway regarding a case of sexual harassment that was reported in La Verdad Panamá. Ordóñez emphasized the sensitivity of the issue within the entity and indicated that measures have been taken to reassign the individuals involved and to avoid conflicts of interest during the investigation.
According to reports, the case of sexual harassment is being investigated at the Directorate of Coliseums of PANDEPORTES and directly involves the brother of a former Major League Baseball player. Although the names and positions of the individuals involved have not been disclosed, the appropriate protocols and procedures are being followed.
The director detailed that he became aware of the situation approximately 12 days ago, just before an official trip, and has since been working in collaboration with the legal and human resources teams to address the case. Both parties have been heard, and the process has been followed rigorously.
"It is a difficult situation, but we reaffirm our commitment to transparency. We live in a rule of law, where people have the right to defend themselves," Ordóñez stated. He also expressed solidarity with women who have faced harassment situations and showed sensitivity towards these issues.
The director underscored that PANDEPORTES follows established procedures for situations of this nature in the public sector, including a thorough internal investigation. It seeks to ensure that everything is handled in accordance with the law, despite the delicacy of the matter.
