Panama Investigates Mr. Fox Song Over Potential Women's Rights Violations

The Ministry of Women of Panama has reacted to the song 'El Falador' by Panamanian artist Mr. Fox. The ministry emphasized that freedom of expression must be protected, but it does not legitimize harassment, gender-based stereotyping, or symbolic violence against identifiable women. The song allegedly names multiple women by their full names, which could become a catalyst for online abuse, coordinated harassment, threats, and lasting reputational damage, regardless of a woman's profession or level of public exposure. Eduardo Leblanc, the Ombudsman, announced that an investigation will be initiated to assess the potential impact on human rights. Under Law 505 of 2025, the Ombudsman's Office will act ex officio to evaluate possible impacts on human rights and activate protection measures where necessary. Additionally, a formal request will be made to digital platforms such as YouTube, Spotify, Google, and X to review the material under their own policies and apply appropriate safeguards, such as enhanced moderation, risk mitigation, and other measures consistent with international human rights standards, to help prevent and reduce online violence against women.
