Panama Confirms Presence of Avian Influenza

In the Dolega area, in the province of Chiriquí, Panama, the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza has been confirmed on a farm. This news has raised concerns among health authorities in the country, who are already taking measures to contain the spread of the disease and protect the health of birds and the general population.

According to initial reports, suspicious symptoms were detected in the poultry on the farm, which led to laboratory tests to confirm the presence of the avian influenza virus. After the corresponding analyses, it was determined that it was indeed a highly pathogenic strain.

Authorities have established a sanitary cordon around the affected farm and have implemented a contingency plan to prevent the spread of the virus to other areas. Additionally, producers of poultry in the region have been advised to strengthen biosecurity measures in their facilities to prevent new outbreaks of the disease.

The Minister of Agriculture of Panama has stated that they are working in coordination with animal health organizations and the World Organization for Animal Health to contain this situation. Furthermore, the population has been asked to remain calm and follow the authorities' recommendations to avoid risks to public health.
