Dr. Gustavo Nelson Collado Hospital in Chitré has reopened the operating room of the Emergency Room with the aim of reducing the surgical backlog and optimizing intervention times. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this operating room was used as a primary care area due to urgency. Now, after its reopening, it will focus on carrying out low-complexity surgical procedures, outpatient surgeries, and those that do not require deep sedation.
Operating room number 8 will be fundamental in the hospital's strategy to expedite interventions and reduce patient waiting times. Additionally, it will allow other operating rooms in the hospital to concentrate on more complex cases, improving the overall efficiency of the interventions. Dr. Avelino Escobar, the hospital's medical director, highlighted the importance of this measure to continue ensuring quality care for patients.
The hospital is recognized for being a pioneer in performing endoscopic surgeries, laparoscopic herniorrhaphy, non-segmental primary anastomosis of the membranous urethra, among other procedures. The reopening of this operating room will expand the capacity for care, especially in specialties such as urology, orthopedics, general surgery, and other disciplines.
On its first day of operation, the operating room successfully carried out a surgical intervention led by Dr. Jean Carlos García, the hospital's urologist. Dr. Ronal Rodríguez, head of the Emergency Room, expressed that this reopening will allow for the care of a greater number of patients and improve the effectiveness of the procedures. In summary, the new measure taken by Dr. Gustavo Nelson Collado Hospital in Chitré will significantly contribute to reducing the surgical backlog and optimizing medical care for the benefit of patients.
