The Dr. Arnulfo Arias Madrid Hospital Complex performed a total of 1,160 surgeries during January as part of a plan by the Social Security Fund (CSS) to improve medical attention in Panama.
Of these surgeries, 393 were emergency and 327 were elective with hospitalization. The statistical report from the Health Planning Unit highlights that the surgeries were divided into elective, outpatient, and emergency surgeries.
The Surgical Service of the Hospital Complex carries out different types of surgeries, including general surgery, plastic and maxillofacial reconstructive surgery, otorhinolaryngology, orthopedics, traumatology, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, and urology. In January, most of the surgeries were outpatient, totaling 440.
The CSS has been implementing an improvement plan since October, which includes rehabilitation work on infrastructures, technological updates, opening new medical specialties, streamlining surgeries, supplying medications and supplies, and easing emergency congestion.
The main objective of these improvements is to elevate the quality of medical care provided to the population and improve conditions for both patients and the medical and administrative staff of the CSS. An outpatient surgery means that the patient does not need hospitalization and can return home the same day with the necessary medication.
