CSS to Invest in New Medications for Patients

The CSS in Panama will invest over 46 million balboas to procure new medications for hematological, neurological, and infectious conditions, improving patient care and quality of life.


The national director of Health Services, Marlín Cedeño, reported that the Board of Directors of the CSS approved the inclusion of medications for hematological, neurological, and infectious pathologies in the official list. A bidding process will be carried out to acquire these drugs as soon as possible and at a better price.

"With the endorsement of the Board of Directors, the National Procurement Directorate is already carrying out the regulatory processes required by law to make the call, so we hope that very soon, in a couple of months, we will be making the bidding to purchase all these medications," said Dr. Cedeño. She added that it is essential for the CSS to have these medications to improve the quality of life of patients.

The Social Security Fund will invest 46 million 86 thousand 619 balboas in the acquisition of drugs for hematological, neurological, and infectious diseases. The public bidding will be conducted under the designation Unique Price Bid 01-2025 and will include the purchase, supply, storage, transportation, and delivery of the medications over 12 months and its possible extension.

The importance of these medications lies in that they are necessary for the treatment of various diseases that affect patients, thus improving their health and quality of life.
