Critical Oxygen Shortage in Guabito Clinics

The Social Security Fund urges protesters in Bocas del Toro to allow medical staff and ambulances passage due to oxygen shortages affecting the Guabito Polyclinic and Las Tablas ULAPS.

Critical Oxygen Shortage in Guabito Clinics

The Social Security Fund (CSS) has requested that protesters at various points in the province of Bocas del Toro allow the passage of medical and administrative personnel, supplies, medications, ambulances, and buses transporting dialysis patients. This is to ensure that medical units can continue to provide care to the population despite the road closures taking place in the region.

The situation with the closures has caused the Guabito Polyclinic and the Las Tablas ULAPS to experience a shortage of oxygen to treat their patients. Additionally, problems have been reported in the emergency rooms due to difficulties in the rotation of medical personnel in various CSS executing units in the area.

It is essential for the health and life of patients that medical personnel and vehicles transporting supplies and medications can reach their destinations in hospitals such as Dr. Raúl Dávila Mena in Changuinola, Chiriquí Grande, and Almirante, as well as in the Guabito Polyclinic and the Juan Aguilar ULAPS in Las Tablas. Furthermore, it is crucial to allow buses transporting patients who require continuous dialysis treatments to pass through to avoid compromising their health.

The medical personnel in the region remain committed to caring for patients, especially in the emergency rooms that operate 24 hours a day. The CSS emphasizes the importance of ensuring unobstructed access for medical personnel, ambulances, and necessary supplies to continue providing quality care to the population amid the current situation in Bocas del Toro.
