The National System of Civil Protection (SINAPROC) issued a warning due to an increase in wave height in the Caribbean Sea. This situation will be in effect from 3:30 a.m. on November 22 to 11:59 p.m. on November 25, 2025, according to data from the Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology of Panama (IMHPA).
Authorities indicated that sea conditions are showing significant variations in three specific areas of the country:
- Western Caribbean (Bocas del Toro, Ngäbe Buglé Comarca and northern Veraguas): waves between 1.0 and 2.0 meters, with periods of 7 to 9 seconds.
- Central Caribbean (Colón Costa Abajo and central sector): waves between 1.0 and 1.5 meters and periods of 7 to 8 seconds.
- Eastern Caribbean (Colón Costa Arriba and Guna Yala Comarca): waves between 1.5 and 2.5 meters and periods of 7 to 9 seconds are expected.
The increase in wave height, combined with wind speed, could create hazardous maritime conditions, especially for coastal communities, artisanal fishermen, and small vessels.
SINAPROC Recommendations
Authorities requested the public to:
- Exercise extreme caution when engaging in recreational activities on beaches.
- Avoid using small boats due to the risk of capsizing.
- Do not enter the sea while adverse conditions persist.
- Stay informed through the official channels of SINAPROC and IMHPA.
For emergencies, the lines 911 and 520-4426 remain active.
SINAPROC reiterated that this warning aims to protect coastal communities and prevent incidents during the days when stronger-than-usual waves are expected.
