The disinfection process for water pipes and drinking water supply lines in the Azuero region continues as scheduled. For this Tuesday, November 25th, work is planned to continue in the community of Llano de Piedra, in Macaracas, Los Santos province. This is the first area where the IDAAN is applying the deep chlorination procedure to clean the network, as part of the plan to normalize the water supply affected by the recent contamination of the La Villa River. According to IDAAN authorities, the disinfection will be scheduled in a staggered manner in other areas, which will be carried out under the strict supervision of the Ministry of Health. While the disinfection is being carried out, IDAAN reiterated to the population of Llano de Piedra that they must not drink tap water or open the faucets while the pipes are being treated, due to the use of chlorine in high concentrations. Once the process is finished, residents must open all the faucets and let the water run for approximately 30 minutes to clean the internal installations. The Ministry of Health will be responsible for analyzing the samples and certifying when the water is safe for human consumption again, so the authorities ask the population to remain attentive to official communications, as these tasks are necessary to restore the drinking water service in adequate conditions. After the process is completed in Llano de Piedra, the next step will be to intervene in the communities supplied by the Rufina Alfaro plant in Los Santos, and subsequently, the process will be carried out in Chitré, a district that receives water from the Roberto Reina plant. The institution explained that Chitré will be the final stage due to its high population concentration, which implies a greater impact during the work.
