The National Institute of Aqueducts and Sewers (Idaan) announced that from Tuesday at 8:00 AM to Wednesday, November 26, at 6:00 PM, the disinfection of the water distribution network in Llano de Piedra, Los Santos province, will be carried out. Idaan has invested about 11 million dollars in the disinfection of the affected potabilization plants, and the most complicated part has been the number of tests that experts have had to perform to adjust the dosages of the chemicals used for water purification. The Ministry of Health (MINSA) will be the entity responsible for certifying that the water is suitable for human consumption, stated Idaan. It should be noted that the water can only be used for hygiene and personal cleaning until MINSA declares it suitable for human consumption, specifies Idaan, who calls on the public to follow the information from this institution and MINSA. Once the process is completed, water sampling and quality analysis will be carried out. Idaan reiterates its commitment to restore the drinking water service responsibly, following strict technical and sanitary criteria to guarantee the safety of the population. Idaan detailed that once the disinfection is completed, it is necessary to open all the home faucets and let the water run for 30 minutes to remove chlorine residues and allow the internal pipes to be flushed. In this sense, Idaan recommends that the population not open the faucets during disinfection due to the high concentration of chlorine in the pipes. Rutilio Villarreal, director of Idaan, had previously announced that this same process will be carried out in the rest of the potabilization plants affected by the contamination of the La Villa River, which are Macaracas, Rufina Alfaro, Llano de Piedra, and Roberto Reyna in Chitré.
