Just over 24 hours after its inauguration, the José Félix Espinosa Barroso Hospital in Bugaba attended its first birth on November 28th, marking a special moment in the start of operations of this modern health facility.
The José Félix Espinosa Barroso Hospital will benefit more than 117,000 residents of the districts of Bugaba, Tierras Altas, Barú, and other regions in eastern Chiriquí. It has transformed from having dirty, abandoned walls and an interior full of trees and vegetation into a medical care center with 172 inpatient beds, 3 operating rooms, and 27 medical offices, putting an end to the great sacrifices that residents of the area had to endure for years as they traveled to the district of David to go to a hospital.
The Bugaba Hospital was officially inaugurated on November 27th by President José Raúl Mulino and the Minister of Health, Fernando Boyd Galindo, accompanied by ministers, vice-ministers of State, directors, and subdirectors of public entities, local authorities, health personnel, and district residents.
The completion of this hospital brings hope to the local population.
The mother, a resident of the Bugabita community, received care from the medical staff who are already working in this initial phase of operation.
During the first 90 days, the hospital will provide emergency care as part of its gradual opening process, reinforcing the health services available to the population of Bugaba and neighboring communities.
This facility had been abandoned for 13 years, and with its inauguration, the health and prevention services for this population will be strengthened.
The new building that will house chemotherapy and hemodialysis services will have 15 chairs for hemodialysis treatment and 15 chairs for chemotherapy, both with their complementary areas.
According to reports from the Ministry of Health, the first baby was born at 9:17 p.m., weighing 2.8 kilograms.
