The High-Complexity Pediatric Hospital of Ciudad de la Salud reported a 90% occupancy rate due to an increase in cases of children with respiratory viruses. The hospital's deputy medical director, Dr. Hong Mei Bao, issued the warning.
The specialist explained that cases of respiratory syncytial virus and influenza can become complicated when children have a history of asthma, allergies, or other pathologies, as well as when they have not completed their full vaccination schedule. Bao noted that the climatic conditions typical of the rainy season have contributed to the rise in these cases, when it was expected that infections would decrease by the end of December.
The doctor emphasized that if a child presents any of the following symptoms, such as persistent cough, fever, vomiting, and nausea, they should go to the hospital for testing and a medical evaluation. She stressed the importance of vaccination, both for children and for pregnant women and the elderly, to prevent infections.
