The operation is carried out by order of President José Raúl Mulino. From January 2nd, waste collection will be carried out from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The mayor, Irma Hernández, had previously requested the president's help due to complaints from residents about waste buildup and bad odors. The sanitation authority also formally offered to take over the service provision entirely from January 18, 2026, when the current contract with Revisalud expires, but this offer was not accepted by the mayor. Quotes: 'San Miguelito is going through a sanitation crisis that could lead to a health crisis. I am announcing the urgent intervention of our Sanitation Authority in order to respond to the population,' Mulino wrote on his X account.
